Introduction
Let's design a show in the browser and see it in action before we even think about unboxing lights or building boxes to control them ✨.
Disclaimer!
These features are currently in early development preview. You will likely run into bugs and see many changes, even breaking ones, over the coming weeks.
All data, images, and music is saved locally in browser storage and not sent to a server. However, at this time, it's possible that could get lost or corrupted with future app changes.
Overview
When planning a light show you need to know two things:
- What will my show look like?
- What will my show look like __ with music__?
Similar to other platforms, lightshowd has two features:
- A simulator where you can draw lights onto an image of your house.
- A sequencer where you can upload music and plot when lights will turn on/off or play effects across the song timeline.
This is a good time to mention that lightshowd is not nearly as full-featured as other programs such as XLights. If you want to scale up a show for the Great Christmas Light Fight, you might want to look elsewhere 😀.
lightshowd aims to be simple, allowing you to quickly put together a custom show that could cover your entire house or your 2-foot tree.
It will take some time to get there, but hopefully we are off to a good start with __ show design in the browser__.
Prerequisites
lightshowd works best with Chrome or Edge browsers.
